A hoop can look perfect on a white card. Then you put it on. It turns forward, catches a strand of hair, or feels heavier than it looked. None of those things shows up in a product photo.
If you are reviewing a custom earring sample for your brand, give it a little time off the table before you sign it off.
Put on the pair, not just one earring
Wear both hoops together and look straight ahead in a mirror. Do they hang at the same angle? Does one sit closer to the face? Turn your head and walk around. A hoop that swings beautifully in your hand may move differently on the ear.
Notice where the weight sits. If the lobe pulls forward, write that down. The useful note is not "too heavy" on its own; it is what you felt, when you felt it, and which part of the design might be involved.
Open and close the clasp a few times
Try the closure yourself rather than watching someone else do it. Is the post easy to find behind the ear? Does it meet the catch cleanly? Do you have to push harder than you expected? Check both earrings. Small differences between the pair are worth mentioning while the sample is still being reviewed.
You are not trying to run a laboratory test at your desk. You are checking the ordinary moment when a customer puts the earrings on before leaving home.
Look at the finish away from the studio lights
Take the sample to a window, then look again under indoor light. Check the color where the hinge meets the hoop and along the inside curve. Hold the two earrings side by side. If there is a surface mark or a difference in tone, photograph it in clear light and point to the exact spot.
A close-up photo helps explain a defect. A photo from normal wearing distance helps you decide whether the overall shape is right for your collection. Keep both.
Send back a short, specific revision note
A note such as "make it better" leaves too much room for interpretation. Try: "The right hoop tilts forward when worn; please review the weight and balance." Or: "The left clasp needs more pressure than the right one to close." Add a photo of the exact area, and keep the sample version number with your notes.
When the revised sample arrives, compare it with the first one and check the same points again. That is how a design you liked on paper becomes a piece you are comfortable putting in front of a customer.
